FAQ
Here are the most frequenly ask question.
-
Does it hurt to get tattooed ?Every person experiences pain differently. What is painful to one might be only slightly inconfortable to another. After a short period of time, the body will produce endorphins that will make pain more manageable. Long sessions will bring a different type of discomforts such as the skin starting to burn from being scratched for a long time, boredom, your lower body getting numb from sitting down for a long time. The placement of the tattoo on your body also plays a big role. More bony body parts tend to be more sensitive, opposed to the places where there is more muscle. Feel free to take your artists advice on the best placement for your tattoo. At Ice Ink Studio we pride ourselves in helping the clients surpass their limits and objectives by providing advice, a good atmosphere and products that calm skin irritation.
-
Can I use numbing cream or pain killers? We don’t advise using numbing cream as it alters the texture of the skin and makes it harder for the artist to work. We also noticed that when we tried to use it, the tattoos tend to not heal as well. As for the painkillers the only kind we can recommend is « Motrin Muscle and Body » or if you have a personal preference that you used before, that is ok.
-
Can I drink before the tattoo ?We strongly advise to come sober to your appointment. If you look intoxicated the artist can refuse to tattoo you and will keep your deposit. Try not to drink the night before as well. Being hungover will make your session very difficult for you, and for you artist because you will bleed a lot.
-
Can I get tattooed if I am sick?We strongly advise to come sober to your appointment. If you look intoxicated the artist can refuse to tattoo you and will keep your deposit. Try not to drink the night before as well. Being hungover will make your session very difficult for you, and for you artist because you will bleed a lot.
-
Can I get tattooed if I am sick ?Please reschedule if you are sick.
-
Can I get tattooed if I am pregnant or breastfeeding ?No you can’t. There is a lot of research on why. Google it.
-
Can I bring my own design/ or copy another tattoo? At Ice Ink Studio we pride ourselves in creating custom designs. We suggest you bring several inspiration pictures to stimulate your artists creativity. We do not copy the work of other artists.
-
How much does it cost? The shop’s minimum is 100$ but a senior artist can ask for more . Please schedule a consultation if you wish to have an estimate on a project. Each artist has their own rates or way to price projects, depending on their skill level and experience.
-
How long does it take for a tattoo to heal?Smaller tattoos tend to heal faster, as there is less damage to the skin. It also depends on the type of tattoo. A fine line arrow is not gonna heal the same as dark half sleeve. It can take from 10 to 30 days to be fully healed. Please consult our page « Aftercare » to have more info on how to care for your tattoo because that will impact on the healing time as well.
-
How long after a tattoo can I resume swimming and tanning?Only when the tattoo is fully healed . It can take from 10 to 30 days. Please visit our « Aftercare » page for more info.
-
Do you do walk inks? You might get lucky but we highly recommend booking in advance. Feel free to call the shop to see if there is walk in availability that day.
-
How can I book an appointment? Please click on the Artists Page of your choice and follow the procedure. It varies depending on the artist.
-
Can I get my deposit back if I change my mind? No. The whole point of the deposit is to secure the time that your artist spends with you and on the design.
-
Can I see my design in advance? We usually show the design the day off. You should be precise enough on your consultation, that the artist knows what to do. However, if there is a small modification to make the day of, it won’t be an issue. If you this way to proceed makes you feel anxious, please talk about it with your artist at the consultation and we can arrange a date for you to come see your design in person . We never send our designs digitally .
-
Can you get tattooed if you are under 18?We can allow it if you are very close to being 18, not under 16. BOTH parents have to be present to sign. The artist always has the right to refuse .
-
How much should I tip?Tip is not mandatory. It is to your discretion . Some people tip as much as 20%, some people can only afford to tip 20$, but in both cases the gesture is appreciated. We put our heart in our work.

How can I prepare for my tattoo?1. Prepare your body for the session from a few days before by avoiding partying, by eating well and mostly resting well. Coming for your appointment in good shape will make you more tolerant to the pain. 2. Eat well and hydrate well on the day of your appointment.During the tattoo, the body behaves as if its going into a little shock. It generates endorphins to deal with the attack on the skin. This can cause a drop in blood pressure that can cause lightheadedness if you did not eat properly. Please tell your artist if you do not feel well. 3. Think about what you are going to wear. You know where you are likely to get your tattoo so make sure that that area is easily accessible to the artist. You can also bring a change of clothes for yourself to change into at the shop. Ideally clothes that are comfy, loose, and that you dont mind getting dirty. Feel free to ask your artist about what outfit would facilitate their job. 4. Shave a area where youre getting tattooed the day before if you can. If not , your artist can do it for you . 5. It’s a good idea to bring snacks to your session. If you get hungry you can eat a fast snack without losing the beat of the session. Bringing some entertainment is a good idea to distract yourself during the session… headphones, iphone, ipad, some people can even read a book !

Do you do cover ups?Sometimes! It depends on the tattoo to cover, the creative freedom left to the artist, the capacity of the artist. Please note that cover ups are always more expensive than regular tattoos because they require more work. Feel free to e-mail us about an inquiry and we will let you know if it is possible :)
